Good for her! This nice girl who's trying to play by the rules is secretly hoping Ms. Gordon will kick some Boomer librarian ass. Almost no one can afford to put in as many volunteer hours as I have in hopes of getting a job in my field. And frankly, volunteer jobs don't use my considerable skills and talents the way a real job would. My brain is going stir-crazy. I guess if you can't move to Maine or the frozen Midwest you're out of luck.
Hold on ... hope is on the way! Er, or something like that.
Seriously, it's a frightening thought to put in such time, effort and sacrifice into "paying one's dues" and wonder if that sacrifice will actually pay off.
Vera, I *can* move to the Midwest or Maine, and I'm still, quite often, out of luck. It's just bad all over. Keep applying, keep networking, somehow we'll all get there.
