Apologia

I owe Frederick Emrich an apology.

He sends me a direct invitation to a Mid-Winter forum on Information Commons and the role of libraries in promoting it ... and I forget all about it.

Mea culpa, Mr. Emrich. And my schedule has been duly amended.

(P.S. --> For the rest of you ... if you're going to be at Mid-Winter and you're interested in the public domain, you should show for this.)

Speaking of apologies...

I owe you one, dating back to last summer. In commenting on feedback from you (in Cites & Insights), I made a stupid assumption about the gender implied by "Eli."

That error will be corrected in the forthcoming "A is for AAC: A Discursive Glossary" issue of Cites & Insights, a special issue generated by your question about OpenURL. Look for it Thursday evening or some time Friday. (It's mostly done, with about a hundred "glossary" entries, but the OpenURL essay--longest in the 20-page issue--is giving me fits. And here I thought it was self-explanatory!)

Oh, no worries. The ambiguity of the name isn't completely accidental, obviously.

You'd be surprised to learn, however, how many people mispronounce Eli (long E-ly) as "Ellie" when I'm standing in front of them. I could make a crude comment here as to why, but that's what personal journals are for ...

Thank you and I'm looking forward to your special issue!
